New Cashboard branding
Here’s a promotional business card I made for Cashboard a day ago.
It’s part of a larger rebranding effort which includes a site and application design refresh.
I love designing with letterforms.
Wish I had more time to design and could spend less time coding.
Crazy video editing creates a song
Whoever did this is ill.
Looks like they taped their daughter, then effected the audio and sampled the video to create a song.
I’m feeling the Aphex Twin effects. Could it be a hidden CIA message?
OS X Leopard and Cashboard, sitting in a tree
In the spirit of feeling (and being) productive, I’ve started tracking all the development hours I spend working on Cashboard. Up until now I’ve skipped it, estimating how long I spend working on it every month. It’s interesting to see exactly how much time it takes to get things accomplished, and keeps me motivated on those days I don’t feel like working. I also finally took the plunge and upgraded my development machine to Mac OS 10.5.4 yesterday. One of the great things in Leopard I’m enjoying so far is the web clip capability. It allows you to select any part of a web page, and use it as a desktop widget.
I’ve created a web clip widget to display all of my hours from inside Cashboard. It’s positioned right next to my Cashboard time tracking widget. Now I know how long I’ve worked, and I can keep tabs on how many more hours I need to put in for the rest of the day. Interesting feedback loop, if nothing else.
When it rains it pours
I like all of the custom maintenance messages sites have these days.
Here’s one from one of my favorite music apps, SoundCloud.

Microsoft Photosynth "not cool enough" for my Mac
It seems that the copywriters (html developers?) over at Microsoft’s Photosynth project have a sense of humor about them.
When trying to install Microsoft Photosynth, I was greeted with this snarky and self-deprecating message on my Macbook Pro.

Is big bad MSFT striking back at Apple by using their own tactics? Can the microserfs out-hipster Apple?

SubModal on GoogleCode
Finally got SubModal moved on over to GoogleCode.
All you javascript freaks go submit patches and enhancements to make it better.
Substruct 1.0.a4
Substruct, the Ruby on Rails e-commerce and content management software just tagged and bagged the last release before we go 1.0.
The version number is seriously misleading as the project has been active for over 2 years. Oh well…
Major changes
- Update to Rails 2.1.0

Coudal Partners' Field Notes
Like many other web developers / hipsters / musicians I carry my trusty Moleskine pocket notebook wherever I go.
It’s a great resource to have handy when inspiration strikes for a new design, painting, or idea I need to capture.
For those not in the know, the Moleskine is a popular notebook / sketchbook that’s been adopted by creative types everywhere since its release in 1998.
It’s basically just a fancier, smaller version of the Trapper Keeper you had when you were in school.
It seems Coudal Partners and Draplin Design Co. have spotted this trend and come up with their own brand of the notebook they’re calling Field Notes.
Field Notes appear more rugged and somewhat slimmer than my trusty Moleskine. Perhaps slender enough to even fit in most of my jeans pockets.
You get 3 Field Notes for $9.95, which is a good price compared to the relatively expensive Moleskine.
I’ve had a sip of the Kool-Aid and it tastes good. I’ll be placing my order shortly…
AT&T's rate plans suck
I’ve been an “AT&T” wireless customer for about 10 years now. I started with PacBell Wireless, which got acquired by Cingular, then AT&T. I’ve had no reason to switch things up.
During that tenure I’ve had many different phones, mostly Palm Treos. The service has been great, working pretty much everywhere – even the internet connection.
I recently upgraded to an AT&T Tilt which has been working wonderfully with my existing AT&T service. (The iPhone just isn’t for me. Lack of tactile keyboard is a deal breaker.)
Since I’ve been a customer so long I guess I have an older data plan, called the “Media max 200”, which gives me unlimited data and up to 200 text messages a month. This plan has worked great with my new phone – 3g data, gps, texting, mms – no problems.
